The inspiration for Team Mayol was born long ago in the azure waters of the Turks & Caicos Islands. Where there as a boy, Jean-Jacques could run wild and free. He loved holding on to the back of his father, Jacques Mayo, while free-diving into the Blue! Already then he had a dream, one day this would be part of his future, sharing his passion and intimacies with the Sea!
In 1992, after the release of The Big Blue, Jean-Jacques was the first in the world to introduced a unique Mayol concept of how to rediscover yourself through, Apnea and yoga using the Sea and Nature as a medium! The course (padi, apnea-skin-diver) was extremely successful as there was global need for knowledge and training in the field of free-diving.
At Team Mayol our philosophy is to "Show & Inspire" the individual, to challenge them through different courses and activities, in a non competitive and fun way, to break through personal and social fears and to rediscover oneself from within and with out. With this comes a high level of confidence and performance, bringing out qualities and results one could only dream of!
Our beautiful Oceans, reefs and many other Nature habitats are slowly dying! We enjoy teaching but also want to evoke a global consciousness of what we can do to live in a more sustainable and Eco-protective way!
Jean-Jacques is the founder of Team Mayol and is in love with the Sea and all its creatures.
He lives on Elba Island and has a Scandinavian back ground and education. He holds three passports but considers himself a citizen of the planet and has been teaching and diving for almost three decades in the waters of the Caribbean, Mediterranean and other exotic locations around the world!
His vision is to “Show” how all life is interconnected and to “Inspire” you to protect our living Oceans and Planet. In 1992 he introduced a ”Mayol” Concept of how to rediscover yourself though Apnea / Yoga without any spirit of competition, including meditation, breathing and visualization techniques and teaches this based in the interaction with Nature and Ocean!
Jean-Jacques and his father talked many times about how man has lost his own Nature and his place on earth.
I believe in the good of man but I also strongly believe man needs to change his dualism thoughts and greedy ways, to show more compassion, to better understand the ONENESS OF THINGS and to find a way where all life can live in harmony!
After spending more then a decade converting his father’s Villa and landscaping the grounds, Jean-Jacques Mayol has opened an exclusive “Diving / Nature” centre on Elba Island, Italy where he offers unique Apnea / Yoga experiences. The Apnea-Yoga centre sits on top the sea cliffs of Calone, over looking Monte Cristo and is located in the wild and beautiful Calamite National park!
Jean-Jacques tells the story; For years my father had wanted to set a record in the Mediterranean, finding Alfredo ( Corsaro ) and his crew on Elba was the perfect match! After spending much time there Jacques fell in love with the Island and decided to make it his home. One day he told me, lets go for a ride I want to show you a piece of land I would like to buy and build a house on.
It was a place in the middle of nowhere, far to the east along the coast, right on top of the cliffs of Callone,,the view was stunning! He told me, this shall be my eagles nest and I will call it Villa Glaucos. (after the Greek sea god "Glaucos") Meanwhile everybody was telling him,,Jacques,,save your money,,why do you want to live way out there? There's nobody, nothing! Exactly, he said!!
And so, together with his father, "Papi" who was an architect, they designed and built Villa Glaucos. It is constructed with great thought, with in and outside visualizations that over load the mind and senses! From the terrace there is an unobstructed 180 degree view of the Sea and Monte Christo Island, which is not very far from where Jacques conducted many of his experimental dives. Light penetrates into every room along with the every lasting blue sea.
It is not just a house, it has become my home and Apnea / Yoga centre which I like to call; a living "Museum" as I have put up images and artifacts that reflect Jacques personal life, career and philosophy. Our dream was to create a unique Apnea / Yoga center to bring together Ocean and Nature lovers from all over the world! The Homo-Delphinus concept is alive and people are coming here, as far away as Japan to talk about it and enjoy free-diving.
Together we are building a global "High Way" of brain waves, exchanging ideas and concepts of how and what we can do to create a better world, plse join us!
